Qatar ready to host yet another edition of Longines Global Champions Tour
Doha, Qatar: For the fifth year the phenomenal AL SHAQAB equestrian facility in Doha, Qatar, will be the stage for the electrifying opening leg of the 2023 Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL season. The launchpad to the 2023 season at AL SHAQAB, part of Qatar Foundation, will welcome top international horses and riders from around the world. Founded by His Highness the Father Emir, this spectacular venue will see the best athletes in the world kick-start their campaign for the prestigious LGCT and GCL titles, as riders and teams battle for supremacy in the Championship series.
Show jumping fans from around the globe flocked to the venue last year filling the main grandstand. With fun activities for the entire family, including pony rides for children at the impressive Kids Academy, top sport can be watched from the chic cafes with dramatic views of the main arena.
Qatar continues to build on its reputation as a global sports destination, featuring top level events like the Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL.
Joining the tour in 2008, the LGCT of Doha is one of the longest standing events, and a firm favourite for domestic and international competitors alike.
2022 saw none other than Ludger Beerbaum reign supreme and earn his place on the top of the podium, taking the title of the LGCT of Doha Grand Prix Champion. Speaking of his win last year, Beerbaum spoke of his memorable performance: "I have had a few wins in my career but this one is probably one of the most emotional ones and also not really expected one. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy this moment. That was definitely our best jump-off ever. I am so happy, I still can’t really believe what happened. It is because of a lot of reasons that this is extra special."
All eyes now look ahead to the countdown to the much anticipated first event of the year, which is kicking off in style from 2-4 March. An impressive program of events and competition ensures something will be on offer for the whole family, promising a fun-filled day out. Tickets are now available to purchase on Q-Tickets.
The Longines Global Champions Tour of Doha follows the tenth edition of Commercial Bank CHI AL SHAQAB Presented by Longines from 23-25 February 2023. As one of only five CHI competitions worldwide, the event further promotes Qatar as a world-class sports destination, while paying tribute to the country’s rich equestrian heritage.
All the action will be streamed live on GCTV with expert commentary and analysis ensuring show jumping fans across the world can follow their favourite riders and horses throughout the event.
Tickets are now on sale for the 2023 event! As the ultimate launch pad for the 2023 LGCT season, the first leg of the year takes the LGCT & GCL into the heart of metropolitan Middle East, following in the footsteps of other world-class sporting events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
