KIAHF-2023 Auction sets a new record

The Auction of the 3rd edition of Katara International Arabian Horse Festival (KIAHF-2023) again saw a set a record for a record price bid of QAR 3.6mn for the most expensive ‘embryo right’ in the world on an action-packed sixth day of the 11-day Festival being held under the patronage of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Katara Esplanade on Monday.

Beautiful mare D Shihanah’s ‘Embryo Right’ (2017-born Mare and sired by FA El Rasheem; Dam: D Shahla) of Dubai Arabian Horse Stud was sold for the record price after fierce bidding which touched twelve stages of bids starting from 1mn till 3.6mn.

The exquisite D Shihanah, royally bred carrying a bit of Eygptian blood, goes back in pedigree to Marwan Al Shaqab. The Dubai Arabian Horse Stud superstar has been taking the horse show rings by storm in recent years.

Last year at KIAHF-22, champion international mare FT Shaella (also of Dubai Arabian Horse Stud) embryo rights had fetched QAR 3.2mn. That was also the first time that bidders could bid for embryo rights and breeding horses at KIAHF.

A total of seven high-pitched winning bids were made at KIAH-2023 Auction. Out of these - two bids were for breeding rights, two for the embryo rights, one for a champion horse with colt and in-foal, and two other horses.

Jazeera Al Nasser with her colt foal Fannan Al Nasser (sired by Fahad Al Rayyan) & in foal to Noorredine Ezzain of Al Nasser Stud was won for QAR 300,000. The other winning bids were for 2015-born Grey Stallion of Dubai Arabian Horse Stud (QAR 200,000), 2009-born Toya Al Naif ‘Embryo Right’ 2009-born Grey Mare of Al Naif Stud (QAR 300,000), 2016-born Grey Mare Tuque Al Naif of Al Naif Stud (QAR 200,000), 2020-born Grey Filly Ayoush Al Shaqab of Al Shaqab, Member Qatar Foundation (QAR 80,000), and 2016-born Chestnut Stallion AJ Radman ‘Breeding Right’, Owned & bred by Ajman Stud - HH Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi (QAR 180,000).

Commenting on KIAHF’s third successful staging, Miss Malika Muhammad Al Shuraim, General-Secretary of KIAHF Organizing Committee, and Director of New Media Department, PR & Communication – Katara, said that equestrian sport is one of the most important sports for which Qatar provides great support, as it has worked diligently to implement international standards in the tournaments it organizes, making it a global and distinctive sports destination for riders and horse lovers looking for distinguished events that contribute to preserving the authentic Arab heritage.

Qatar has always been known as a center for horse and equestrian sports and a pioneer in its interest in purebred Arabian horses, which has strengthened its position in this field globally.

She added that the Katara Arabian Horse Festival is one of the most important equestrian sporting events, and it seeks to protect the rich equestrian heritage through the diversity of its sporting, artistic and cultural events.

She praised the large participation of horse owners in the region in this festival, which includes the best Arabian horses of the world.

She stressed that KIAHF in a way wrote a certificate of success for itself thanks to the great cooperation between the constituent bodies of the Organizing Committee, foremost of which is the General Organization of the Cultural Village Foundation- Katara, which harnessed all its expertise and capabilities in order to organize a distinguished festival in its second edition, and wished success to all the owners participating in the festival, the Qatar Equestrian Federation and the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC).

She noted that the vision of the auction is based on Qatar becoming a global center for the most authentic and highest quality Arabian horses, and promoting a culture of interest for horse owners and breeders to participate in purebred Arabian horse shows that are organized locally and internationally. The auction also aims to provide an opportunity for interested owners, breeders and lovers of Arabian purebred horses to acquire the best horses, especially since the horses offered at the auction are of the finest types and have all previously won in international and regional championships.
