Doha, Qatar: Hilti CC won their cricket match without a ball been bowled against Redco International CC in the QCA Cup a Twenty20 over tournament orignased by Qatar Cricket Association at West Bay grounds in Lusail on Friday.

Seven other teams had to toil hard for the win on Friday, while the first round matches of Qatar Professional League, 50 over tournament were postponed on account of the wet conditions of the ground.

The Professional league 50 over tournament will begin from next Friday.

In the T20 QCA Cup besides Hilti, the others winning teams were Super Stars, Black Hawks, Qalandars, Shah XI, Arabian Knights, Sundarban Tigers and Baawan.

Super Stars won against Wombats CC by seven wickets, Black Hawks won by 54 runs against Hadico CC, Qalandars Cricket Club won by 86 runs against Prime Gladitors , Shah XI won by seven wickets against Nihal XI Cricket Club, Arabian Knights won by four wickets against Spartans Cricket Club, Sundarban Tigers won by eight wickets against Cholan Cricket Club and Baawan won four wickets against Quad Super Kings Blue.

Incidentally, Hadico which lost to Black Hawks chasing 179 for a win could only score 124 for loss of nine wickets in 15.1 overs, they took the field with ten players and thus the eleventh batsman could not come to play.

The Qatar Professional League name is a misnomer for the league, many says as not a single professional player----- they do not earn full wages from cricket but are employed elsewhere, their jobs having nothing to do with cricket.

The Qatar Cricket Association has been trying to ring in a few changes besides raising the participation fees this year, they have promised prize money to the winners and runners up in all the divisions., a fact which was told to them last year also, Qatar has three division starting from the Pro Division to B and C.

Last year also they were promised that the grading of clubs will take place as per the performance of the season.

Eight teams fighting for top honors in the Pro division this years, the first round which was to  take place on January 20 Friday had to postponed.

Asian Cricket Club, Titans Cricket Club, Fireox Cricket Club, Tusker Cricket Club, Commercial Bank CC, Falcon Cricket Club, Hurricane Hunters, Galfar Cricket Club are the teams taking part in the tournament.

A few changes have occurred in team line up with Bangla Senior CC forced to change the name to Titans Cricket Club, following QCA guidelines which said teams having names similar to that of the country ought to change their names.

In the same criteria, Lankans Cricket Club would have had to change their name but with some of their key players migrating to different countries they pulled out of the tournament but are sure to come back into the top division next season.

Lankans Cricket Club, consisting of mostly Sri Lankan born cricketers had a few sponsors to support them and their passion for the game in Qatar including Sri Lankan Airlines and a few other business houses on Qatar, having links to Sri Lanka.

The void of the Lankan team will be felt most, but some of the key players have been romped in by other teams.

Incidentally according to QCA rules any team can play in the Pro Division provided they have seven players who have played in the top division cricket of Qatar.

Making their entry back into the top league is Doha Falcons, while the other new team among the eight Pro teams is Hurricane Hunters.

Incidentally last season, Warriors CC pulled out of the Pro division, increasingly bringing to the surface the amateur status of the Qatar cricket and its affiliated clubs.... Shining the other day disappeared the next day.
