Doha, Qatar: January 5: Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) is getting ready for the new season by grooming new referees to take on the challenges of the different international, national and regional competitions which will be held in Qatar.

The first of the many competitions - WTT Contender Doha 2023 will be held from 15 Jan - 21 Jan 2023 at Lusail Sports Arena.

A new course for table tennis referees for the sports season 2022-2023 were successfully held at the table tennis preparation and training center in Ras Abu Aboud.

The four-day course was presented by chairman of the referees committee at QTTA Hassan Yousef Al Omari, and covered a range of crucial topics, the most important of which were the introduction of the game laws and rules of the international competition to the attendees, in addition to the practical training and opening the space for public discussions.

The attendees were subject to a written test to figure out their extent of response to the information that was considered during the course events.

President of the referees committee Hassan Al Omari stated that the course came in preparation for 2025 World Table Tennis Championship after the World Backgammon Federation (WBGF) had selected Qatar to host the game.

Currently, a new generation of referees from citizens is being prepared to participate in the global event in 2025 to emerge well and leave good impression on the Qatari referees and upgrade their level, Al Omari pointed out. (
