Forca Goa Foundation Launches Inter-Center League

Forca Goa Foundation Launches Inter-Center League

Forca Goa Foundation kicked off its inaugural League between 16 of its grassroots development centres earlier last week. The League will see weekly matches being played between the centers in three zones; North, Central and South.

The League will run every Saturday from October until the end of the academic year with breaks during exams and holidays. Each school will have two teams in the U12 and U14 age categories participating in this league. Conceptualized by Derrick Pereira, Technical Director of FC Goa, the league hopes to provide incentives to the coaches and children in the grassroots program and give them valuable match experience.

Current school football competitions provide limited match time to the participants as they are mostly short tournaments rather than long term leagues. By putting the focus on playing time rather than winning, the Foundation hopes to build future stars by allowing them to develop critical match skills that players can only get by playing games regularly.

Coaches also benefit from developing and selecting a team that plays regular football. It allows them to develop tactically and professionally. Considering a coach can impact over 1000 kids though his/her career, the Foundation hopes this league will have a long lasting impact in the football ecosystem in the state.

TWO GFDC ACADEMY BOYS TO REPRESENT INDIA IN THE U-15 SAFF CHAMPIONSHIP

TWO GFDC ACADEMY BOYS TO REPRESENT INDIA IN THE U-15 SAFF CHAMPIONSHIP

PANAJI: Two boys from the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) Residential Academy, Margao are selected to represent the India men’s team in U-15 SAFF Championship which will take place from October 25 to November 3 at the ANFA Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal. In the group of 25 boys selected the two Goan lads are Harsh Patre (midfielder) and Frevino Fernandes (goalkeeper).
The duo was attending a trial camp for the National team from September 27 at KIIT University Guest House Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
It is a proud moment for GFDC that was formed in 2012 by Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar for the development of football.
The Chairman of GFDC, Dr. Rufino Monteiro expressed immense happiness over this news. After taking over as Chairman in March 2012, he began working with his team to promote grassroots football development in the state which was and continues to be the need of the hour. If we are to attain glory for Indian and Goan football this being well documented in leading footballing nations like Spain, Belgium, Germany and today our stand is vindicated
“I am happy that two of our boys have been selected for the National U-15 Football team. Three more trainees had attended the training at Odisha and have been called back for a further training and look in for the U-15 National team. All these boys have been with us at the grassroots centres from the start and then made a cut to get into our Residential Academy team. This grassroots programme will unearth many more jewels from the mines of Goan football,” told Dr. Rufino.
Both the boys were training under the guidance of Academy Head Coach and Technical In charge of GFDC, Derryl D'Souza.
The GFDC Member Secretary, Alexio Da Costa is extremely pleased that they have crossed the first milestone in giving the Goan youth a chance in the U-15 SAFF Championship. “It is a dream come try for every Goan after the debacle of the U-17 World Cup team selection. In such a short time GFDC has proved and brought Goans up to a level where they are second to none in the country.  Credit goes to my entire technical staff, coaches, grounds man and other have made this possible,” said Costa.
The father of Harsh Patre displayed immense happiness and was overjoyed that his son has made a place for himself in the India U-15 team. He also thanked GFDC for the coaching and apt platform provided to his son to hone his footballing skills. “I feel proud that my son has done it. It is like a dream come true for the family and Goa. He has always been very hard working and deserves to make it big. He should continue to play with the same momentum,” said Shailesh Patre with tears of joy.
While Derryl D'Souza also praised the efforts and dedication put in by the boys during training. “There is no substitute for hard work. This is just the beginning,” he said.

Kashmir Forgotten For Years, Hope To Change That: Real Kashmir Coach David Robertson

NEW DELHI: There are a number of storylines that stand out ahead of the start of the new I-League season but perhaps the most poignant one is of Srinagar-based club Real Kashmir, who will be making their top division debut in the 2018-19 campaign and will become the first team from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to feature in the professional top flight in India.
Formed just four years ago, the side secured their promotion after a dramatic campaign in the second division, which concluded with a 3-2 win against Hindustan FC in May – thus rounding off a fairytale run for the team. Leading the team from the touchline was coach David Robertson, who enjoyed a stellar career with Scottish Premier League giants Rangers FC as a player, and has previously coached sides in his native Scotland and the United States.
AIFF Media spoke to the six-time Scottish Premier Division winner, where he talked about the upcoming season, his experience in India so far and his thoughts on the talents of the local Kashmiri players among other things. EXCERPTS:
After a fairytale season in the second division last time around, what are your expectations going into the team’s first season in the I-League?
It has been quite an incredible last few months for us at the club. We have no expectations laid down as such and just want to take one game at a time. We’d like to compete well in our games, make sure we go in there and hold our own and after 2-3 games, we’ll see how the team does and get an idea of where we can finish towards the end of the season.
I’ve been a great believer in the fact that one should take one game at a time – particularly since it’s our first time playing at the top level. I have seen and studied the level of the I-League and Indian football in the last two years and we hope that we are organized and play to our level best.
How has your experience been with the team so far? How has it been adjusting to life in India?
It’s been great obviously, coming from Scotland and the US and then moving to India and Kashmir. It was a culture shock at the start but once you get to know people in the area, it’s all very well.
There have been just two players from Kashmir who have gone on to play at a high level in India and that’s something we want to change. I can say for sure there is a lot of talent here and it struck me since I first came here. The last second division match against Hindustan FC – we won it with six Kashmiris in the team.
We wish to inspire young kids in the region. The I-League matches will be telecast on national TV and the team has generated a lot of interest here, so hopefully, we’ll get noticed. The state’s been forgotten about for a number of years and hopefully we can change that.
How was your team’s pre-season as a whole? How did the team enjoy the trip to Germany?
Germany and Dortmund are big names in football, obviously. A year ago we took the boys to Scotland as we wanted to expose them to new experiences – in terms of football as well as life. The trip to Germany was great and next summer we’ll probably do something like this again.
Pre-season matches in Mumbai were great as well. We played five games and like everybody else, we’re building up to the first game of the season. There are still a few bits and pieces to add but the fitness levels of my players are great. We can’t wait for the season to start!
What are your thoughts on the local Kashmiri players in your team? Any names that we can expect to stand out by the end of the season?
There are three players that come to mind – Farhan Ganie, Danish Farooq and Muhammad Hammad. There are other ones as well but these three played with us last year and I hope they continue to do well and contribute to the team’s cause.
What kind of atmosphere can we expect at the stadium during your home games?
There’s a lot of excitement! In some of the second division games, especially against Lonestar Kashmir, there was a great atmosphere at the ground. We’re hoping for more of the same when the established Indian clubs come in.
Our stadium’s quite tight and can get loud. At the moment, it is getting done up and upgraded, which will be good for the fans. I’m sure teams will find it difficult to come here and play against us.
What message would you like to give your team’s fans?
They’ve all waited for a long, long time for this moment and it’s finally happened after a fairytale story. I request them to come out in numbers and enjoy the experience, cheer us on and help us get through. It’s our first season! Hopefully, the fans are also as excited as we are.

Scrap outdated National Games, demand former sportsmen ahead of the event in Goa

There is a growing clamor in Goa among a section of former sportsmen and administrators that the National Games concept of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has become outdated and needs to be scrapped.
India Olympic Games, later named as National Games were introduced in 1924 to prepare for the then 1924 Olympic Games. Since then, they are held every two years for the records, but have missed the two-year interval on many occasions.
The last edition of the National Games, which had postponed many a times will be held in coastal state of Goa from March 30 to April 14.
"The National Games have lost its purpose. I do not think these games contribute in anyway to help our sports persons compete in the Asian Games and the Olympic Games. Its time to scrap these games and fund the respective Associations," said Lector Mascarenhas, a former international footballer from Goa.
Taking a dig at the national associations and their lack of interest in grooming and preparing athletes for the Asian Games and Olympics, Mascarenhas applauded the efforts of former sportsmen Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone.
"Hats off to Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) a non profit foundation formed by two legends viz Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone. In the London 2012 Olympics, 4 out of 6 medalist in the 2012 Olympic Gmaes were supported by 'OGQ' very ably run by CEO Viren Rasquinha, the former Indian hockey captain. A definite way forward," added the former Dempo SC, Salgaocar SC and Customs and Central Excise player.
Former hockey player Jorge Goes from Goa now based in UK questioned the state of the game in the state is the same what it was 30 years back thanks to in fighting.
"During our playing days we used to hear that astro turf will be installed.... one in South Goa and the other in the North, but nothing of that sort has happened, hopefully the new hockey stadium will be built in time for the National Games." Jorge, however, was not in favour of the IOA continuing with the National Games.
"To me, there is no point In organising the national games. It's a grey area for the politicians and bureaucrat to loot the monies.
"In my opinion the monies should given to school and colleges to get their sports department organised on professional lines. Award long term scholarship to the deserving and future promising sports stars. Give monies at grass root level to organise various sports competition. National games is a political sports event to loot," he added.
Former subjunior India international Saby Antao now a certified strength trainer at an university in New York said the trust should be on infrastructure rather then the games.
"What use are these games? Are they used as benchmarks for qualifying for Asian Games or Olympics or World Championships. If they use separate meets for these games (Asian and Olympics) then the Games are a waste," said Saby.
Noel Estibeiro, a former table tennis player, who has filed a case against the state government in the Goa bench of the Mumbai High Court over the non implementation of the Sports Code directives of the Central Union ministry feels the "sports should not be neglected for what is happening off the field".
"National games should be hosted by Goa. With the national games we will get good sports infrastructure for our local talent. With the best of infrastructure in place, it will help them (sportsmen) to be groomed and hopefully they will excel in the near future," added Noel.
"It is also a dream for many players to follow their passionate sport and to witness live all the action in their own state and learn and get motivated by watching great players and athletes of the country," he added.
Nilesh Naik, President of Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association also said Goa will benefit from the games.
"In terms of infrastructure, Goan sports persons will benefit and will get standard playing grounds to perform in future events. National games are the highest rated sports event in India where top athletes and sportsman eye for top position to represent the country in international events, Goan sport persons will also get a chance to highlight their skills in this mega event and sports culture will develop."
The uncertainty of the Games taking place still float in the air with several projects yet to take off, prompting several question marks over the state preparedness to host the multi-discipline event and the impending 2019 Lok Sabha elections round the corner.
Out of the several news stadiums which the tiny state has proposed to built banking on the Rs.225 crore central government funds, at least three of them are in the plinth stage and in some cases construction is yet to take off.
"In certain cases works have started, it has come to plinth level. In certain cases works would start in about 8 days time, to be completed well before time for the games," Sports Authority of Goa Director V M Prabhudessai told Khelupdates.com..
Lot of new infrastructure is coming. There are three categories, one which is already existing, one which will be upgraded and renovated on war footing. And the third category is new infrastructure. Like tennis stadiums, hockey stadium are new infrastructure. Swimming pool renovation is upgradation,” he added.
A dozen Competition Directors were in Goa along with Mukesh Kumar, Chairman of Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC), along with members S. M. Bali and Dhanraj Choudary to take stock of the situation and visited some of the sites.
"Competition Directors have seen the designs, they have discussed with the engineering cell which is headed by Anil Ringne who is overseeing the construction of projects that are already going on and the construction of projects that will happen in the next eight days or so, things are going very well," he added.
"The competition directors while making their assessment. While visiting the sites, they are supposed to see the facilities existing at the existing stadiums and facilities that are required to be done at the non-existing stadiums," he said.
Two new sports stadiums are being constructed, one is in Sawalwada and another is in Campal. Works of these two stadiums has already been started and we are hopeful that the works will be completed in a time bound manner.said Kumar Chairman of GTCC, However, our investigations reveal that the Navelim Sports Complex in South Goa is also yet to take off. the venue will host handball, kho kho and kabaddi competitions.
The organisers are ready with a second plan if the proposed stadium are not built in time.
"If there are some problems, then we have discussed plan B also where some Indoor stadiums will be identified and the games scheduled in these two stadiums can be shifted in case of emergencies. But our thrust is that these stadiums should be completed. The plus points are that the works have started and are going on at war footing. They have made time bound schedules and rains are over plus also. The agencies executing these works are confident they will complete the venues much before schedule,” added Kumar.
We have requested the Union Government to part with 225 crores. In the past, the union government has helped us by releasing over 100 crores during and prior to the Lusofonia games. Besides, the present Athletics stadium at Bambolim was also supported by the Government of India by giving 15 and half crore rupees. We are very positive about receiving the central funds. We have heard that they have moved the proposal to the Union Sports Minister. The Chief Minster has been pursuing with the Union Sports Ministry and we are quite positive about receiving the funds," said Prabhudesai.
Incidentally, the state chief minister Manohar Parrikar has been sick for almost one year and has been hoping in and out of the hospital beds in USA, Mumbai, Goa and New Delhi.
He is currently admitted in a private apartment in Goa which has been upgraded to a mini-hospital as he is fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Prabhudessai said the state which has been going through the resource crunch will shell out 400 crores to host the Games.
The state contribution is in the range of 400 crores on various components like accommodation, equipment, training of the state teams, transport, food, ceremonies, medical aid, etc”. said Prabhudesai.
The Games is facing another uncertainly with the Lok Sabha elections during the same time as the event.
This is a pre- determined event, the Government does not foresee any difficulty. We have also written to the local election commission, the Goa unit of the election commission of India requesting them to impress upon the election commission of India that these games are being held,” informed Prabhudessai.
Meanwhile two events will be held outside the state “Shooting and cycling will be held in New Delhi. The State Government has decided to hold the two disciplines in New Delhi. Earlier, we wanted to hold them in Kerala but now the GTCC Officials have also recommended that there are better facilities in New Delhi than Kerala.
The two are being held outside Goa for lack of these two facilities in Goa. They are not being hosted by any another state," he added.
The opening and closing would be held at PJN Stadium, Fatorda. Opening ceremony will be on March 30 and closing ceremony will be on April 14.

Kon rea ho.....Mahendra Audi......Goan people want answers-- janta ko jawab chahiye

Recruitment scam in Sports Authority of Goa continues

No recruitment rules for last 30 years.
A physical education teacher V M Prabhudessai becomes Executive director (ED) of SAG and Director of Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs thanks to his caste.

Now he has brought in another Bamon Mahendra Audi sans any advertisement, and he is sitting in V M Prabhudessai office.

And Mahendra Audi is saying  he's not SAG employee.
What a big joke it is... Can any Tom Dick and Harry sit in EDs Cabin... or SAG Office... attend National Games Meetings or Coordinate with Associations or... go around with Competition Directors who had arrived from different parts of India...
It's a govt office
VM has made SAG a market place

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) has highly qualified and experienced coaches and staff who had done ..post graduation and graduation in physical education and are active organisers for national and state tournaments for so many years....but SAG are taking people with no experience in sports as project officers and other posts at SAG. No advertisements no interviews... sports minister and VM Prabhudessai is selling this posts to the highest bidders and Events management contracts are bagged left to right by V M Prabhudessai son, while one Mahendra Audi has found his way from August 19 as Project Officer at SAG,

------------------------------------------------------

Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) says Sports Secretary has forwarded a note to SAG asking them not to grant permission to coaches to do refereeing,  umpiring and other officiating duties. Reason: In some cases 30 to 40 percent of their time is lost in officiating.
What are the six zonal-in-charges and project officers appointed for different games doing. Got to know that some of them have been appointed with out any interview and no advertisements have been published.
In fact there are no recruitment rules ....all are political appointees barring a few of the 900-odd staff  working at Sag and Directorate of sports and Youth affairs. And the man sitting on the pile of mess is the 'yes man' of the sports ministers for the last 30 years.....the great VM Prabhudessai.
He has served under Dayanand Narvekar, Churchill Alemao, Ramesh Talwadkar and Manohar Azgaonkar......every time crawling when he was asked to bend. And he is party to the loot.
His son's  Events management company got all the contracts for Lusofonia Games and if the 700 crore budgeted National Games take place in Goa then it will be more of a windfall for the Prabhudessai.
